There is no such thing as a waveless waterbed mattress. Wave reducing is the correct term.

What is T.E.P.

T.E.P. means TOTAL EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE ie The sum of all the baffles inside the mattress.

4 layers

Do you know what's inside your computer. How good the components are? The chances are that you do not.. That is the same in waterbed mattresses.

You are at the salesperson's mercy.

This waterbed site is here to expose, inform you in greater detail. We have been advising customers for years about this over the phone.

Baffles are measured by weight. A sheet of dacron wadding/fibre is measured by grams per square meter. The more grams per square meter the heavier the baffle is and better wave stopping capabilities and support. Some manufacturers make a 300gram per square meter per layer baffle and a 500 gram per square meter per layer baffle and even a combination of the both. This confusion is not really the fault of the manufacturer rather that the retailer who requests the manufacturer to make a product to their specifications. Then the industry is left with another specification to consider.

A potential customer rings around and wants a 5 [five] layer mattress. What can they get?

CURRENTLY AVAILABLE

They can get a 5A 5 x 300 = 1500 TEP
They can get a 5B 5 x 500 = 2500 TEP
They can get a 5H 500 + 300 x 4 = 1700 TEP
They can get Aqua Serene 5 x 300 = 1500 TEP
They can get Aqua 5 x 500 = 2500 TEP
They can get Clipper 5 x 520 = 2600 TEP

The range is 1500 TEP to 2600 TEP and the price range is accordingly but PERFORMANCE IS NOT THE SAME

Many consumer who ring around for price got a range of prices for 5 layers, BUT THE PERFORMANCE WAS ACCORDINGLY. Then some customers got the price and not the performance and disappointment and left waterbeds thinking the wrong information As you see it still goes on, so Dreamlover Waterbeds introduced TEP. No one can fiddle with the total or TEP. If you ask a retailer what is the TEP of the layers in their mattress you can be assured you are comparing apples to apples. If they can’t then they don’t know their product or they are hiding something.

You can also say 5 x 300gr baffle [A] = 3 x 500gr baffle [B] = 1500 TEP Both have the same performance and should be near the same price. We are not saying one is better that the other. Just the same/similar TEP and therefor the same wave reducing/support performance

This is how some retailers sell more mattresses. Potential customers ring around for price on a 3 layer and many go for the lower price but not the performance. Some retailers sold 3 x 300 = 900 TEP as a cheapie to the 3 x 500 = 1500 TEP being a thicker baffle or higher quality.

One manufacturer marks 2 x 300 = 600 TEP as medium and the 2 x 500 = 1000 TEP is also marked as medium. I’m lost on that one.
